Juvederm vs. Restylane. A question asked by one of our patients.

Is Juvederm safe? I recently saw some commercials on Juvederm. Can you tell me if you offer Juvederm?

We do not have any exclusive contracts with any products that we use in the office. Restylane and Juvederm are the same product, which is hyaluronic acid. Restylane came out first, and had a proven track record to be safe and effective. Juvederm came out recently, within the last few years, and we had attended a seminar on Juvederm when it first came out.

The difference between the two is in the molecular structure of the hyaluronic acid; with Juvederm, it is slightly more “water-thirsty” than Restylane. It therefore appears to have a longer half life and duration of effect.

We wanted to wait and make sure that Juvederm is just as effective and safe as Restylane, and it appears that It is. I have already contacted the Juvederm rep and have ordered some Juvederm for the office, so I will be offering Juvederm in the future in our Modesto Plastic Surgery office.

Juvederm is offered by Allergan

Restylane is offered by Q-med

Edirol R-09

Edirol R-09

Introducing the latest addition to Edirol’s red-hot portable recorder lineup: the R-09. Building on the success of the R-1, the R-09 takes many of the most desired features — 24-bit uncompressed recording and a built-in stereo mic — and shrinks it all down into a more streamlined, stylish, and affordable package.

24-bit/48kHz (or 44.1kHz) uncompressed recording

Up to 320kbps MP3 playback and recording

Records to SD card (64MB card included)

High-grade stereo condenser microphone built in

Mic and Line audio inputs; USB 2.0 I/O

Easy operation, user-friendly graphic display

Ultra portable, half the size of the R-1

Long battery life

My take on this device: I've waited for a long time. The price hasn't changed and the item hasn't been recreated. It costs around $350-$400, can be found on http://www.amazon.com/ .

My current recorder is a Zoom and I just dispise it. I dispise it so much I've lost it.

Here's something on the New zoom which Id don't have: The Zoom H4:

The Zoom H4 Handy Digital Recorder fits in your palm and is ideal for recording live musical performances, interviews, podcasts, meetings, classes and seminars. The H4 allows you to record 24-bit/96 kHz digital audio as well as in MP3 format with bitrates up to 320kbps.
The H4 features two studio-quality electret condenser microphones configured in an X/Y pattern for true stereo recording. It also includes 2 combination XLR-1/4-inch input jacks with phantom power for use with any external microphones of your choice. And the H4 is loaded with onboard studio effects such as compression, limiting and mic modeling. An 1/8-inch headphone jack is also provided for monitoring.
The H4 records on to Secure Digital (SD) media, a 128MB SD card is included with the unit. With a 2GB SD memory card, the H4 provides up to 380 minutes of recording in 16-bit mode (CD Quality), and 34 hours in MP3 stereo mode. And to move your recordings to a PC or Mac, the H4 includes a USB mass-storage interface.
The H4 provides four hours of continuous recording operation from 2 AA batteries. A back-lit, 128?4 pixel LCD provides the visual interface. An AC adapter, USB cable, windshield cover and tripod adapter are also included.

Social Networking Websites (life beyond MySpace)

I came across a webpage:

2008 social networking websites report

as I was contenplating if there was life beyond MySpace.

Surprisingingly on this list I had not heard of Zorpia, Aol People Connection, Hi5, My Yahoo, Tickle, Everyones Connected or Backwash. What surprized me was that MySpace is still #1. I thought there would be a slide down from #1 for Myspace.

Here's the rank (all of them are free):

1. Myspace
2. Zorpia
3. Aol People Connection
4. Friendster
5. Hi5
6. My Yahoo
7. Facebook
8. Tickle
9. Everyone's Connected
10. Backwash

This ranking isn't by most popular social networking websites.

One of my favorite sites is http://www.statsaholic.com/ it allows me track trends. Let's look at some of these items on this list:

As we can see, facebook is on a rise, with myspace taking a gradual decline from it's peak in mid-year 2007.

As a side note, I've always been interested in the rise of http://www.youtube.com/ and wanted to document the growth here:

As you can see, the growth of youtube.com is such that it is catching up to myspace.com

Another program is designed for aestheticians to shadow our practice. This program is just in it's infancy:

Our current telephone number is 209-551-1888 for Surgical Artistry, Tammy Wu, MD

I've deleted our old number which was 209-918-0188 (which still works, but rings a cell phone instead - which hides in our office). We've called this phone our office Plastic Surgery cell phone. We started our practice off on this telephone back in 2006.

Discipline in Music. Goals, and concentration in Music. From EB/AC

First: Think, reflect, and try to understand. THEN play!

Music: It's a hard, good fight. In this profession the more you know and achieve, the higher the mountain gets. There is no end.

Question yourself, your playing… all the time! How's my: Balance? Direction? Shape? Pulse? Sound? Articulation? Breathing? Hand Position?

Go for the subtleties, sophistication, and detail… not cheap thrills!
Your musicality should not be merely accidental or intuitive. How can you be so musical and yet do so many unmusical things?

You are intelligent and talented. That is NOT enough.

Know yourself, your talent, and especially, your weaknesses. Develop your instincts and use your talents.

Be careful not to become a slave of your fingers. Always make sure that your mind controls your fingers and not the other way around. Technique should always be subservient to the musical idea.

Attitude is everything. Yes, the psychological pressure is difficult. But you knew that, and you chose to be here. Give yourself a chance and believe that you can. Otherwise, you will be on stage and think, "MY GOD! WHAT AM I DOING HERE!" There are many psychological factors on performance. Everyone has ghosts to deal with, but the moment you know them, they cease to exist! Try to understand why you feel nervous. Be grateful for life, for the opportunity to play.

Trust what you know. If we get 80% of what we practice when we perform, we are lucky. Don't try to play better than you can (it can happen, but not usually!) and don't allow yourself to play worse than you should!

To check if something is right, try both extremes: right and wrong. You must know wrong to recognize right.

Music and sound are not equal. Don't go for sound. Go for music. Sound is physical and note-by-note. Music is thinking in advance (intellectual) and emotional.

Fight your reflexes and THINK more! Your brain is incredibly lazy when it comes to participation in what you're doing. It is a spectator of the ballet made by your fingers.
Be aware of the relationship between what you want and what you actually are doing.
Anticipate your intentions. Connect all the wires before you play; know exactly what you are going to do.

Use your brain always, not only "on demand."

You cannot become a great musician through money, through miracles, or through your teacher. You could study with Horowitz... you could study with God!... without the work and effort on your part, nothing will happen.

G Spot Amplification

The G-SHOT® (clinical description: G-Spot Amplification® or GSA®), is a simple, nonsurgical, physician-administered treatment that can temporarily augment the Grafenburg spot (G-Spot) in sexually active women with normal sexual function. GSA is a patent pending method of amplifying or augmenting the G-Spot with a human engineered collagen, specifically, an FDA approved collagen. To make this collagen, it is carefully treated and preserved, and is then supplied to physicians in a form that can be injected. The collagen is a natural, biological substance. The collagen is typically processed gastrocnemius fascia. The FDA approved collagen is a specially developed and processed collagen which doesn’t require pre-injection skin testing like most available collagen products on the market. G-Spot Amplification was invented and developed by a gynecologist David Matlock, MD, MBA, FACOG. In a pilot study, 87% of women surveyed after receiving the G-Shot reported enhanced sexual arousal/gratification. Results do vary. The affect can last for up to 4 months, and does vary. So why not ask your doctor if G-Spot Amplification is right for you?

The G-Shot® is a painless office procedure performed in your doctor’s office under local anesthesia. The actual injection usually takes less than 8 seconds and the total office visit time is usually less than 30 minutes. A specially designed speculum is used to assist in the deliver a specified amount of human engineered collagen directly into the G-Spot after local anesthesia. The G-Shot® augments (enlarges) the G-Spot. This results in a G-Spot about the size of a quarter in width, and one fourth of an inch in height (meaning the projection into the vagina). Note that results do vary.
